School closures

Find out if any schools in Suffolk are currently closed and who decides to close a school.

Individual schools will be making their own arrangements if they have staff that are taking part in any industrial action. For this reason, the best place to check if your child’s school is open (or partially open) is via that school’s website.

Schools tell us about their decision to close and we publish information about any closures.

School closures are typically due to severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Who decides to close a school?

The headteacher is responsible for deciding to close their school.

They are best placed to take full account of all the circumstances that impact their school, pupils and staff.

Headteachers will always make every effort to ensure that their school remains open. However, in extreme conditions it can be very difficult, or even impossible, for pupils and staff to get to school.
